WALMART introduced its membership program in 2020, touting the subscription service’s benefits, from free pickup and delivery orders to exclusive product discounts.

One Walmart shopper blasted the discount retailer for not only charging her card a week after she canceled her Walmart+ membership but also for failing to provide her with a refund.

PLUS PROBLEMS

“No one purchase the Walmart+ membership!” Ge Marie, known as @Ginamarie1003 shared on X.

“Mom bought it a year ago as did I,” she explained.

Individuals can subscribe to Walmart+ on a monthly or yearly basis.

“I canceled both a week before renewal,” Ge wrote.

“They try to charge card a week later & they called to verify purchase & [I] denied it,” she continued.

“They went to next card on file, even tho it’s canceled & got money. Now won’t return $$,” she added.

According to Walmart, “there are no refunds” for Walmart+ memberships, but as long as customers cancel their membership before their renewal date, they should be able to avoid paying for an additional month or year.

“To avoid being charged for a new term, you must cancel your membership subscription…before the end of the current term,” Walmart advises.

Walmart also claims they “will charge any credit, debit card, or other payment type….we have on file for you for an additional term.”

WALMART COST

To this day, the discount retailer offers new Walmart+ customers a 30-day trial.

The trial is absolutely free, with one free trial allowed per member.

After the 30 days, the price of a Walmart+ membership will run individuals $98 per year, or 12.95 per month, plus any applicable tax.

Similar to its competitors, Walmart+ also offers discounted membership rates for college and university students, and for individuals on government assistance.

Discounted student pricing memberships start at $6.47 per month, or $49 per year.

ABOUT WALMART+

When Walmart first launched Walmart+, many shoppers were eager to sign up for the service.

Walmart+ is a membership-only subscription service similar to Amazon Prime or Target Circle 360.

The service offers customers savings both in-store and online.

Benefits include free delivery from local stores, free shipping with no order minimum, member savings on fuel, and other perks, from travel discounts to auto care savings.

Members in select locations can also opt-in to return items straight from their home, stream content on Paramount+, and use Mobile Scan and Go, allowing customers to skip checkout lines in-stores.

MANAGING A MEMBERSHIP

According to the Walmart+ Help Center, Walmart+ subscribers can change, pause, resume, and cancel their membership at any time.

Monthly subscribers, for example, can upgrade their membership to an annual subscription.

Members can also pause their membership, meaning they won’t get charged a monthly fee.

They will, however, lose access to all Walmart+ benefits during the pause.

When a membership is paused, members can choose to resume their membership at any time.

Canceling a Walmart+ membership is slightly trickier.

Subscribers need to visit the Walmart+ cancelation webpage to cancel their membership.

Walmart+ does state that it doesn’t offer any refunds on Walmart+ transactions, including membership fees, which is why it’s important to know your renewal date and cancel ahead of time to avoid being charged.

Walmart+ also mentions that monthly and annual members don’t need to cancel immediately, and will receive a reminder via email three days before their membership’s renewal date.

However, based on feedback from social media users like Ge Marie, we recommend canceling your membership – and removing any associated payment methods with your account – well in advance.
