WITH Vice President Kamala Harris poised to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential race, millions of Americans are turning their attention to her husband.
As the second gentleman of the United States, Doug Emhoff leads a relatively private life, but a throwback photo from his younger years has sparked quite a frenzy on social media.

Emhoff is more than just Kamala’s husband– he’s also skilled in his own right, getting his start as an entertainment lawyer before becoming a partner at DLA Piper, the third-largest law firm in the US by revenue.
In addition to his duties as second gentleman, Emhoff also works as a distinguished visiting professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, and as a distinguished fellow of Georgetown’s Institute for Technology Law and Policy.
While the bulk of the nation’s attention over the last few days has revolved around his wife’s historic presidential bid, the 59-year-old made headlines after social media sleuths uncovered one of his old photos.
On July 23, Peanut Butter Pretzels, also known as @onedankmom, shared a throwback snap of Kamala’s husband on her X account.
“I need Gen z to see this picture of Kamala’s husband in the 80s and make him TikTok’s white boy of the month,” she captioned the post, tagging Doug’s official X account, @SecondGentleman.
The photo, reportedly taken in the 1980s, shows a much younger Emhoff staring directly at the camera, brows furrowed, with a smize that would make Tyra Banks proud.
GO OFF, EMHOFF!
His tanned skin, casual blue T-shirt, and dark, wavy hair were enough to make social media users swoon.
“Give him an English accent and there would be at least one Taylor Swift album about him,” one user wrote.
“Doug was quite good looking,” another user posted.
“Dayum, that’s Doug?! Holy F,” another user posted.
“Holy smokes!!!” one user commented.
“Um. swoon,” another user shared.
Some X users even compared the former Californian– who still maintains homes in San Francisco and the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles– to a Hollywood star.

One user, clearly at a loss for words, posted a gif instead, of a woman pouring a bottle of water over her head.

The thirst was clearly contagious, as the post reached over 1.7 million views and counting, 32,000 likes, 2,500+ reposts, and over 500 comments by Wednesday evening.
Some users took the chance to get a little nostalgic for their younger years, and younger appearances.
“Ahh, we were all so young once,” one user shared.
“I see this and wonder what happened to my youth. Lol,” another user added.
“This needs to circulate like that young pic of Joe!” one user shared.
They were referencing a similar viral moment when an old photo of President Joe Biden made the rounds on social media, causing a similar wave of jaw-dropping reactions.
It’s unclear whether Emhoff has seen the photo, or if he’s aware of his newfound internet fame.
Emhoff hasn’t reposted the photo or commented on his Hollywood looks on his X account yet, but if the photo keeps gaining momentum, he may have to face his younger self head-on.
